My Famous Gut-Healthy Unicorn Juice!
If you follow The Modern Life Mrs on Instagram you have heard me talk about my famous "Unicorn Juice". It's known to aid in gut health and other chronic ailments. I have had numerous followers try this juice on a daily basis and have fallen in love with it. One women even messaged me saying it 'changed her life'. **tears to my eyes, literally!**
Now, I am going to say without zero fluff, I am NO doctor. I do not have any medical credentials and no dietary certifications. All I have is a chronic, horrible autoimmune disease called Ulcerative Colitis. And with this disease I have put more hours into researching food, diet, and lifestyle than I have in every year of traditional schooling combined! No joke.
So even though I am not a doctor or dietician, I do know some stuff! And I speak about these topics with experience. I would never suggest something that I haven't tried myself or seen real results with in myself or with someone that I know. I have SEEN this juice help with digestive issues. For my followers, close friends, and myself. Will it work for everyone? Of course not. Every person reacts differently to everything (perfect example: Me with just one drop of caffeine and I'm a freakin' nut case. While my fiance can drink a cup before bed and sleep like a baby.) Is this the cure-all for UC or other autoimmune disease? No. There are many other pieces to the gut puzzle. But I always say that a 1% improve in anything, is improvement. And this is a journey, so every step forward is progress. And I'm ALL for progress!
Enough chit-chat...let's get to the good stuff!
I first head about red cabbage for gut health in a random documentary I watched when Mike was out of town (that's when I get on unhealthy TV binges!). There was a man suffering from UC and once he incorporated red cabbage juice into his routine, he improvement immensely! And to a girl who was bleeding out of her ass and rushing to the bathroom after eating ANYTHING––I was willing to give this cabbage thing a go.
But I knew juicing cabbage alone wouldn't be my drink of choice in itself––the thought kind of made me want to gag––so I really wanted to supercharge this AND make it palatable!
I have been experimenting with juice recipes for awhile now and am learning what combos work well together. After doing a lot of research on what fruit and veggies work well for autoimmunity and gut health I found the most delicious (AND PRETTY) combo.
Here are some reasons why I chose each ingredient specifically for a gut-healing juice....

Fresh juice should only be drank on an EMPTY STOMACH! Drinking juice on an empty stomach allows the vitamins and minerals in the juice directly to your bloodstream and can also avoid digestive issues (like heart burn) after consuming. Try following the rule of consuming fresh juice 2 hours after a meal and wait 20 minutes after to eat a meal.
Right after your juice is made, DRINK IT! When it is exposed to air the live enzymes begin to degrade and will lower the nutritional content in your juice.
First you want to wash your ingredients, then cut them into smaller pieces to fit into the juicer.
I don't know if there's an order that you "need" to do here––but my weird OCD always has me juice this in the same order: Cabbage, apple, ginger, squeeze of lemon.
